Full day on the coast

REALLY busy/full day today. Started with breakfast at IHOP - otherwise known as the breakfast spot of champions! :) We drove up to Diamond Head and had a "vigorous" walk - only 0.8 miles, but had a climb of over 550 ft. Mom and Dad did great - made it all the way to the top with not much problem. The 99 steps at the top were a challenge, but the views were spectacular. After a quick return to the hotel and a bite of lunch, we started off on our whirlwind tour of the southern 1/4 of Oahu. See the list of sites/stops below.

- Hanauma Bay - state park with beautiful snorkeling. We didn't dive, but got some great views and pictures. Lots of snorkeling planned on Kauai.
- Halona Blowhole - underground lava tubes funnel seawater thru an opening in the rocks - very cool
- Sandy Beach - should be known as "kick Ron's a**" Beach. Big waves that are great for bodysurfing - probably 4-5 ft today. lots of fun, but My body will pay for it tomorrow. I was tossed around like a toy.
- Beautiful vistas as we rounded the southern tip of the island and headed to Kailua and Lanikai beaches on the western shore. The granddaughters loved these 2 beaches as they were very calm and relaxing. Lots of wind surfers in Kailua beach hauling butt in high winds.
- Finally, we headed back to the hotel via Pali Pass, stopping at Pali Lookout. The winds feel like hurricane force up here. There are places where it can blow you off your feet. Will be interested to see if a photo of Tricia from here makes it to the blog :)

Well, better wrap up as we're headed to dinner - leaning toward PF Changs...
